A bill collecting and processing apparatus is provided to prevent damages to inner parts of the bill collecting and processing apparatus by detecting and filtering out a metallic foreign material. An ATM(Automated Teller Machine) receives and collects bills(p). An inserting box(110) for receiving a bill bundle or an inserting hole for individual bills is arranged in a bill collecting and processing apparatus. A metal detector(210) is arranged in the inserting hole or the inserting box to detect a metallic foreign material attached to the bill from the outside. When the metallic foreign material is detected by the metal detector, a controller(140) stops the operation of the ATM and generates an error signal. The metal detector includes a probe wave generator and a probe wave sensor. |
