In a liquid display device 1, a first backlight 5a is disposed to be capable of irradiating a light onto a first irradiated region 8a of a liquid crystal panel 7, and also a second backlight 5b is disposed to be capable of irradiating a light in color which is different from a color of the light irradiated by the first backlight 5a. In the liquid crystal panel 7, a light blocking section 13 that blocks transmission therethrough of the light incident via the first irradiated region 8a or the second irradiated region 8b is disposed between the first and second irradiated regions 8a and 8b.
