2-Butyl-3-[[2'-(1 H -tetrazol-5-yl)[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl]methyl]-1,3-diaza-spiro[4,4]non-1-en-4-one (Irbesartan) is prepared by reacting 1-(2'-cyanobipehnyl-4-yl)methyl)-2-n-butyl-4-spirocyclopentane-2-imidazolin-5-one with sodium azide and zinc halide, in organic solvent.
