A plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce the length of a sub-field by executing a sustain period during an address period. In successive plural first sub-fields among plural sub-fields, row electrodes are divided into row electrodes of first and second row groups(G1,G2). The row electrodes of first and second row groups are divided into first and second sub-groups(G11-G18,G21-G28). First and second voltages are alternately applied to the row electrodes of light emitting cells of the first and second sub-groups. A third voltage is applied to the row electrodes to be selected as non-light emitting cells among the light emitting cells of the first and second sub-groups during a part of an applying period of the first voltage. An applying period of the third voltage to the row electrodes in a first sub-field with a first weighted value is longer than the applying period in a second sub-field with a larger weighted value than the first weighted value.
