A mobile communication terminal having an original viewing function and an operation method thereof are provided to enable a user to view contents of an original message without stopping a reply message writing process, and to automatically display whether a received text message is a reply message for a certain text message, thus the user can conveniently write a reply text message. It is checked whether or not a user selects an original viewing function on a message writing screen(S10,S11). If so, an original message linked with the currently written reply message is displayed on the message writing screen(S20,S21). If the user writes a reply message based on the original message displayed on the message writing screen, the written reply message is transmitted(S23-S44). The message is an SMS(Short Message Service) message or an IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) message.
