A display device and a method for fixing a channel number are provided to output broadcasting of a specific broadcasting station through a constant channel number irrespective of a frequency of a broadcasting signal transmitted from a broadcasting station by using EPG(Electric Program Guide) information included in a broadcasting signal received by the display device. A key input unit(12) includes a fixed channel list generating key(12a) and a channel number controlling key(12b). A memory unit(11) stores EPG information extracted from a received broadcasting signal. An OSD(On Screen Display) processing unit(10) processes an OSD outputted on a display unit(7). If the fixed channel list generating key is received, a controller(9) searches a frequency received from a broadcasting station to generate a fixed channel list, including a specific channel number and a broadcasting station name corresponding to the specific channel number, according to each frequency. The controller stores the fixed channel list in the memory. If the channel number controlling key signal is received, the controller searches a frequency received from a broadcasting station to analyze EPG information included in a broadcasting signal transmitted through each frequency. The controller sets the broadcasting station name included in the EPG information to a broadcasting name included in the fixed channel list. After that, the controller outputs a channel number, corresponding to the broadcasting station name included in the fixed channel list, by controlling the OSD processing unit. |
