A method and an apparatus for selecting the channel of digital broadcasting in a portable terminal are provided to check a receivable digital broadcasting frequency according to the location of the portable terminal, select a frequency with a low AVRBER, and receive the digital broadcasting, thereby solving a problem that handover is performed only when the reception of the digital broadcasting is stopped in a duplicated area. A method for selecting the channel of digital broadcasting by using location information comprises the following steps of: checking the location of the portable terminal during digital broadcasting watching and checking a digital broadcasting frequency which can be received in the checked location(205,207); selecting the checked digital broadcasting frequency and receiving the digital broadcasting when a digital broadcasting frequency is checked(217); and calculating an AVRBER(Average Bit Error Rate) for each frequency, selecting a frequency with a low AVRBER, and receiving the digital broadcasting when plural digital broadcasting frequencies are checked(209,211).
