The console (1) has an upper cover plate (5) closing the console, and including two armrest parts (13, 15) respectively provided on driver and passenger sides for a driver and a passenger. The armrest part (15) includes a cover (17) closing a low-depth sub-adjacent bag (19) for housing objects e.g. sunglasses. The cover is closed to constitute the armrest part (15) or is opened to permit the driver to arrange an objects depositing zone at a side of the armrest part (13), during the absence of the passenger. The cover is articulated to the plate along an axis near the passenger side.
