The present invention relates to cosmetic preparations for protection of the human skin and human hair against the harmful effects of ultraviolet solar radiation containing the water soluble UVA absorbing substance disodium phenyl dibenzimidazole tetrasulfonate [2,2'-(1,4-Phenylene)bis(1H-benzimidazole-4,6- disulfonic acid, monosodium salt); 1H-Benzimidazole-4,6-Disulfonic Acid, 2,2'- (1,4-Phenylene)Bis-, Disodium Salt] together with Benzophenone-4 (2-Hydroxy- 4-methoxybenzophenone-5-sulfonic acid) and its salts to quench the fluorescence of disodium phenyl dibenzimidazole tetrasulfonate.
