The encoder has an output buffer (4) storing compressed frames i.e. video images, from an encoding module (3). A transmitting buffer memory (5') e.g. video buffer verifier, stores data packets from cutting of compressed frames from the memory (4) and transmits the packets with a controlled bit rate, on a communication channel. A control module (10) i.e. real-time capture controller, has an adjusting unit that dynamically adjusts maximum size of a capture buffer (2) for temporarily increasing the size of the buffer (2) and the memory (5') that is not empty.
