Arrangement and method for assembling a fitting to a conduit wherein pre-tightening or pre-installing at least one gripping member on the conduit is performed, thereby reducing time and/or effort to install the fitting to the conduit in a- fluid system. The method comprising: providing a gaugeable stop member (190) movably assembled with a first component (130); inserting the conduit (120) and a conduit gripping member (150) into the first component; tightening a second component (170) against the first component until engagement between the second component and the stop member impedes movement of the stop member with respect to the first component, such that the gripping member becomes installed on the conduit; removing the conduit with the gripping member from the first component and installing it into a fitting.
