PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine whether or not upper and lower limit value settings of a manipulated variable are appropriate in the execution of limit cycle automatic tuning. SOLUTION: An automatic tuning device comprises a limit cycle automatic tuning computation part 6 for outputting a manipulated variable of a fixed amplitude to a controlled object and calculating control parameters of a controller from a control response to the manipulated variable output, in the execution of limit cycle automatic tuning, a time measurement part 8 for measuring an upper limit manipulated variable output time for which the manipulated variable output is an upper limit value and a lower limit manipulated variable output time for which the manipulated variable output is a lower limit value, in the execution of limit cycle automatic tuning, a ratio calculation part 9 for calculating a ratio RT of the upper limit manipulated variable output time to the lower limit manipulated variable output time, and a determination part 10 for determining whether or not the upper and lower limit value settings of the manipulated variable are appropriate in accordance with the ratio RT.
