PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size by a small shape and the thin formation, by preventing hitching of an edge guide. SOLUTION: This paper guide mechanism has a manual paper feeding part 9 capable of supplying paper to a medium carrying passage in a device case, a sheet guide 19 arranged in the manual paper feeding part 9 and having an inclined plate 19a guiding the paper, the edge guide 21 arranged in the sheet guide 19 and slidable in the width direction of the paper supplied to an upper surface of the inclined plate 19a, and an operation part 41 formed in the edge guide 21. The inclined plate 19a is bored with a pair of parallel slits 19b and 19b extending in the side direction of the edge guide 21, and first and second sliding contact projection parts respectively fitted in the slits 19b are suspended by a reverse surface of the edge guide 21. The first sliding contact projection part positioned substantially just under the operation part 41, has the longer sliding contact length in the longitudinal direction of the slits than the second sliding contact projection part positioned separately from the operation part 41.
