PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medial/distal chip for an artificial joint favorably guiding the insertion of the stem into a medullary cavity in an artificial cementless joint, retaining the inserted stem in a stable position causing neither osteolysis nor loosening of the artificial joint, and recovering thinned part, defective part and a friable part of the bone. SOLUTION: This medial/distal chip 10 for the artificial joint is attached to a medial part or a distal part of the stem 2 of the cementless artificial stem 2, guides the stem 2 of the artificial joint such that, when being inserted in the medullary cavity 4, the distal end 2a of the stem 2 is prevented from directly abutting on the inner surface of the medullary cavity 4 and, when finishing the insertion of the stem 2, stably positions the stem 2 in the medullary cavity 4. The medial/distal chip 10 is composed of a bone prosthetic material and its external diameter is formed larger than that of the stem 2 at the fixing position. A fitting hole, built-in projection or a thread-engagement screw is provided as an attaching means of the stem 2 so as to be eccentric from the axis of the medial/distal chip 10.
