PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating compressor in which an unnecessary lateral load on a piston is suppressed when the rotating motion of a drive shaft is converted into the reciprocating linear motion of the piston through the swing motion of an eccentric shaft. SOLUTION: This reciprocating compressor comprises a cylinder 25, the piston 30 contained in the cylinder 25 vertically slidably through a seal member 33, a drive connection part 31 formed integrally with the piston 30 and having a round hole 31a the axis of which is crossed perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder 25, a drive shaft 34 installed in the circular hole 31a, the cylindrical eccentric shaft 35 formed integrally with the drive shaft 34 and installed in the round hole 31a, and a sliding member 37 inserted between the inner peripheral surface of the round hole 31a and the outer peripheral surface of the eccentric shaft 35 and pivotally supporting the drive connection part 31. The sliding member 37 is so slid as to relatively rotate the drive connection part 31 and the eccentric shaft 35 when receiving a lateral load by the swing motion of the eccentric shaft 35 due to the rotational driving of the drive shaft 34.
