PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read out a signal from a light receiving unit to a vertical transfer register by two-layer gate electrodes of a simple structure, and control reading out from the vertical transfer register to a horizontal transfer register and an electric charge transfer direction for each column. SOLUTION: In a first vertical transfer register 3a and a second vertical transfer register 3b, first layer gate electrodes 6 are made to have the same pattern so that a control signal is applied in the same timing, and second layer gate electrodes 7a, 7b are made to have different patterns so that control signals can be applied in timing which is independent each other using transfer electrodes of a simple structure by two layer gate electrode structure. Further, respective transfer gates 2a, 2b respectively connected to the second layer gate electrodes 7a, 7b are respectively prepared so that signal reading out from respective light receiving units 1 to the respective vertical transfer registers 3a, 3b are made in independent timing.
