<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a room key issuing system for reading a passport and automatically issuing a room key. <P>SOLUTION: A hotel front system 3 is provided with reservation information management means 22, 24 for previously registering reservation information. Reading means 17, 12 read the image information of a first area including a photograph on a passport 4. A recognition means 13 extracts the image information of a second area from the image information of the first area and executes OCR processing to recognize characters. An acquisition means 15 inquires the reservation information management means 22, 24 to acquire the reservation information on the basis of the character recognition result.
