<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display which can obtain ample luminosity and is low in power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display, having a pair of substrates 101 and 102 facing each other and a liquid crystal layer 104 interposed between the pair of substrates 101 and 102 and having a plurality of layers comprising a refractive index anisotropic medium aligned in the same direction, the plurality of layers are disposed to be nearly parallel to the surfaces of the pair of substrates 101 and 102, refractive index difference between adjacent layers in the plurality of layers is controlled by electric field and either of the pair of substrates 101 and 102 has a light absorption plate AP that absorbs light, made incident in the liquid crystal layer 104. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
