PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing device and a reproducing method in which switching operation of subtitle information of Advanced Content of HD DVD standard is performed. SOLUTION: The reproducing device has: a reading part for reading image information, subtitle information, and management information from a recording medium; an operating part for outputting an operation signal; and a processing part in which Advanced Application included in the management information is started, codes C1, C2 are issued in accordance with the operating signal from the operating part and it is supplied to the Advanced Application, thereby one subtitle information included the subtitle information by processing of Advanced Application is set and reproduced.
