PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of cleaning a recording medium without the need of any complicated system. SOLUTION: A disk holding part 19 includes a turntable 23 into which an optical disk 2 is loaded, and a clamper 22 for holding the optical disk 2 with the turntable 23. A ringlike magnetostriction element 34 is loaded onto the turntable 23. Thus, when the optical disk 2 is held by the disk holding part 19, the magnetostriction element 34 comes into contact with the optical disk 2. A magnetic field generation mechanism 31 generates a magnetic field to apply magnetic energy to the magnetostriction element 34. By this magnetic energy, the magnetostriction element 34 is vibrated, and the optical disk 2 is vibrated and is cleaned. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
