PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector or the like capable of more general purposely correcting distortion of a projected image when an aspect ratio of an input image is different from an aspect ratio of an image display area of a spatial light modulator. SOLUTION: The projector 100 includes: an instruction information input part 110 for inputting instruction information showing distortion correction instruction contents of a user; a determination part 130 for determining the aspect ratio of the input image; a correcting part 140 for performing horizontal expansion correction for expanding a horizontal end part of an image in an image display area horizontally when the aspect ratio of the input image is longitudinal with respect to the aspect ratio of the image display area of the spatial light modulator 192 and when instruction information showing a vertical distortion correction, and performing horizontal contraction correction for contracting the other end facing the end part horizontally when the horizontal expansion correction is limited and when instruction information showing vertical distortion correction is further input; and a projection part 190 for projecting the image corrected by the correcting part 140 through the spatial light modulator 192.
