PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser light source device capable of suppressing output light power deterioration efficiently and ensuring higher light utilization efficiency, uniform polarization direction of the output light and stable output, and to provide an image display unit equipped with the laser light source device. SOLUTION: This laser light source device 31 comprises a light source 311, a wavelength conversion element 312, and an external resonator 313. The wavelength conversion element 312 is provided in the resonant structure (first optical path O1) formed of the light source 311 and the external resonator 313. The laser light having a second wavelength converted in the progression toward the light source 311 after reflection by the external resonator 313 is taken out to a second optical path O2 by a plane 312Aa so inclined that it makes the light proceed toward a second optical path O2 different from the first optical path O1 and a plane 312Ac so inclined that it directs the light in the direction nearly same as the proceeding direction of the first laser light LS1, and is utilized as output light along with the first laser light LS1.
