PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline battery having a positive electrode mixture improved in high rate discharge characteristics, with high capacity realized, and capable of mass production. SOLUTION: The alkaline battery contains polyolefin in a positive electrode mixture of which the outer diameter is 100.2-102.0% of an inner diameter of a positive electrode can, and which has, as a positive electrode active material, manganese dioxide, a nickel hydroxide based compound, and graphite as a principal component. As a result, the alkaline battery having the positive electrode mixture superior in molding work, improved in high rate discharge characteristics, and with high capacity can be realized.
