PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an image display device by which an element having desired characteristics can be formed while suppressing deflection of a metal foil substrate. SOLUTION: A metal foil substrate 10 has a base portion 11 in a rectangular plane form and six protruding portions 12 protruding from the base portion 11. In the two protruding portions out of the six protruding portions 12, one each is disposed each short side, while each two of the four protruding portions are disposed on each of the long sides. A fixing substrate 20 is constituted such that six recessed portions 22 are formed on a base portion 21 in a rectangular plane form. In the two recessed portions out of the six recessed portions 22, one each is disposed on each short side, while each two of the four recessed portions are disposed on each of the long side. That is, the six recessed portions 22 are disposed at positions matching the six protruding portions 12. The metal foil substrate 10 is fixed to the fixing substrate 20 by fitting the protruding portions 12 to the respective recessed portions 22. Then, elements 42, 43 are formed on the metal foil substrate 10, and the protruding portions 12 are cut to separate the metal foil substrate 10 from the fixing substrate 20.
