PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas appliance discrimination device and discrimination method, capable of discriminating many types of gas appliances, and capable of detecting gas leakage. SOLUTION: The types of gas appliances and the gas leakage are discriminated based on a correlation between a flow rate and pressure, a correlation between the flow rate and a temperature, and a correlation between the pressure and the temperature, in addition to a flow pattern and range of gas. The discrimination device/method is provided with three detecting parts 1-3 for the gas flow rate, the supplied pressure and the gas temperature. The detecting parts 1-3 are connected to a feature extracting means 4, and an output from the feature extracting means 4 is input into an appliance discrimination means 5. The appliance discrimination means 5 is connected to a discrimination result output means 6 such as a gas leakage alarm. The feature extracting means 4 is constituted of a short-time flow rate section analytical part 41a and a long-time flow rate section analytical part 41b, a short-time flow rate change analytical part 42a and a long-time flow rate change analytical part 42b, a flow rate-pressure correlation function analytical part 43, a flow rate-temperature correlation function analytical part 44 and a pressure-temperature correlation function analytical part 45.
