PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing polymer, in which acrylic monomer and a chain transfer agent comprising a mercapto compound are used and smell of hydrogen sulfide derived from the mercapto compound can be decreased. SOLUTION: The method for producing polymer comprises removing a solvent from a polymer solution prepared by polymerizing acrylic monomer in a monomer solution containing the acrylic monomer, a chain transfer agent comprising a mercapto compound and the solvent, wherein a basic compound or a phenolic antioxidant is added before polymerization start, after polymerization and before desolvation, or after desolvation.
