<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an audio apparatus capable of appropriately coping with time variation of a noise level and automatically adjusting sound volume and sound quality. <P>SOLUTION: A change rate detection circuit 113 detects a change rate of a noise level, based on a sound collection result by a sound collecting unit 140. A time constant determination circuit 114 changes a time constant TCV for noise level detection adopted by a time-constant circuit at a compensation amount determination circuit 112, based on the detection result DCR of the noise level change rate. The compensation amount determination circuit 112 determines the amount of sound compensation, based on the detection result of the noise level adopting the time constant TCV and the detection result of level of an audio signal LAS.
