PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of attaining stable reading and coinciding the sub-scanning magnification of original image of the front surface of the original with that of the back surface of original image. SOLUTION: The image reader gives a difference in carrying speed between an upstream side carrying roller and a downstream-side carrying roller to an original reading means. The reading sub-scanning magnifications of a first reading part and a second reading part are adjusted by changing the main-scanning reading times of the first reading part (CCD line sensor 126) and the second reading part (CIS line sensor 128) independently.
