PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing apparatus for registering key information to a decoding circuit having no key deriving function while maintaining confidentiality of the key information. SOLUTION: A key deriving utility 111 for acquiring key information set from HDD DVD media or a server executes mutual authentication between itself and a content decryption LSI 112 for executing decryption of the content. Then, the key deriving utility 111 calculates an encryption key using information turned out to be shared between itself and the content decryption LSI 112 based on the mutual authentication, and encrypts the acquired key information set with the calculated encryption key and stores the encrypted information set into a non-volatile memory 113. The content decryption LSI 112 calculates an encryption key by using the information turned out to be shared between itself and the key deriving utility 111 similarly based on the mutual authentication, and releases the encrypted key information set read from the non-volatile memory 113 with the calculated encryption key.
