PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage device and a data control method that can divide a logical space according to the request of a user. SOLUTION: When an application requests to acquire a divisible size of logical space, a host device 10 sends a command (Get Max Size) to a nonvolatile semiconductor storage device 20. Upon receiving the command (Get Max Size) via a host interface part 21, a memory control part 23 searches for unused logical blocks in the logical space of a flash memory 22 to calculate a maximum divisible size of logical space, and sends the maximum divisible size of logical space to the host device 10.
