PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an input device easily and quickly inputting characters and words by simple operation, particularly, as compared with conventional methods. SOLUTION: In inputting a word, a character at the top of a reading order is read out by executing a first operation, a character to be read out is switched by a second operation and a character is selected by performing a third operation, so that a plurality of predictive candidate words including the selected character at the top are displayed in prescribed order. Furthermore, other predictive candidate word is displayed by performing a fourth operation and the word is defined by performing a fifth operation. Since it is not required to switch characters and words to be displayed by repeatedly depressing an input button 8a, characters and words can be simply, easily and quickly input as compared with the conventional method.
