PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image reading method of the image reader capable of correcting distortion of a read image caused by fluctuations of an original in a carrying direction. SOLUTION: The image reader and the image reading method of the image reader capable of correcting distortion of a read image caused by fluctuations of an original in a carrying direction can be provided by detecting phase difference of imaging signals of a plurality of one-dimensional imaging element and generating a read image of the original on the basis of a detection result.
