METHOD FOR REMOVING CERAMIC ORTHODONTIC BRACKET

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing a ceramic orthodontic bracket.

SOLUTION: The orthodontic bracket 20 having central and distal sections is removed by pivoting the sections toward each other arcuately around a central axis extending in an occlusal-gingival direction. The central and distal sections are discrete and spaced apart from each other, or integrally joined by a relatively thin web which bends and optionally fractures upon removal. A metallic archwire slot liner interconnects the central and distal sections and enhances the sliding mechanism of this bracket. A plier-like removal instrument 60 includes jaws 62 with stops for limiting the lingual depth of engagement in the central and distal sides of this bracket to facilitate pivoting of the central and distal sections during removal.
