PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for production of a carboxylic acid reducing leaching of active catalyst components from a support in producing a product containing carboxylic acid by a carbonylation of an alcohol and/or a reactive derivative thereof in the presence of water and a heterogeneous carbonylation catalyst in liquid phase. SOLUTION: The process for production of a product comprising a carboxylic acid having n+1 carbon atoms comprises reacting in the liquid phase at elevated temperature and pressure a composition comprising an alcohol having n carbon atoms and/or a reactive derivative thereof, a halogen and/or a halogen compound precursor, water and carbon monoxide in the presence of hydrogen and a heterogeneous catalyst comprising a group VIII noble metal species on a polymeric resin having a hydrogen atom and a functional group selected from nitrogen-containing heterocycles.
