PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a spread spectrum communication apparatus in which handover between different frequencies is facilitated.

SOLUTION: The spread spectrum communication apparatus comprises a wireless frequency receiver 25 for receiving compressed frames intermittently during compression mode, a timing/despreader 51 for detecting a first search code and a second search code during the nontransmission time of a compression mode period, a detection determination unit 52 for determining these search codes based on a predetermined criterion, and a controller 21E for controlling handover between different frequencies by establishing synchronism with other frequency carrier based on the first search code and the second search code detected by the detection determination unit 52.
