PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone terminal which can speedily improve sound during speech communication and can be simplified in its constitution and made compact, and whose manufacturing cost can be reduced. SOLUTION: The telephone terminal is equipped with: a microphone; a receiver; an equalizer which corrects frequency characteristics of a speech communication speech data input by the microphone or output by the receiver on the basis of a set correction value; a transmitting/receiving means of transmitting and receiving the speech communication speech data; and a control means of controlling speech communication operation. The telephone terminal is equipped with a correction value storage means of storing correction values for frequency characteristics of speech communication speech data previously set while being made to correspond to languages used by areas. The control means includes a speech communication area determination means of acquiring area information specifying speech communication place upon origination/termination from the inside of the terminal to determine the area and a correction value setting means of reading a correction value corresponding to a decided area from the correction value storage means and setting it to the equalizer.
