PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image identification device and an image identification method that allows fast image identification. SOLUTION: The image identification device 1 for implementing image identification comprises an integral image data generation part 21 for dividing an image comprising a plurality of pixels each having pixel data into a plurality of integration areas and generating integral image data originating in the pixel situated at any corner in each of the plurality of integration areas, a memory 3 for storing the integral image data, a readout area designation part 22 for designating part or all of the image as a readout area, and a readout area summation part 23 for reading out integral image data that is used for readout area summation from the memory 3 and summing the readout area according to the integral image data read out.
