PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for constructing an inexpensive and high quality diaphragm wall, even when including a hard stratum, by rationalizing an excavation process, in a diaphragm wall construction method using a chain conveyor cutter. SOLUTION: The diaphragm wall construction method includes: a process of setting the first depth H1 in the middle of reaching the target depth H from a ground surface 1; a preceding excavation process of leaving at least a part of excavation earth generated as its result in the ground by excavating and loosening up to the first depth H1 from the ground surface 1 in the vertical direction by using a first chain conveyor cutter 11; a succeeding excavation process of excavating up to the target depth H from the first depth H1 in the vertical direction by reaching up to the first depth H1 by moving in the excavation earth of leaving a lower end part of a long size chain conveyor cutter 13 reachable to the target depth from the ground surface after the preceding excavation process; and a construction process of constructing the diaphragm wall 15 reaching the target depth in the ground by delivering a solidification liquid in the excavation earth.
