PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition device for an internal combustion engine preventing kickback and stabilizing idling rotation, by setting an ignition position in starting and idling of an internal combustion engine at an optimal position. SOLUTION: The ignition device for an internal combustion engine comprises: a signal generator 2 generating a first pulse signal P1, and second and third pulse signals P2, P3 different in polarity from the first pulse signal P1; a start time ignition signal supply means 11 giving an ignition circuit an ignition signal, when the signal generator 2 continuously generates same polarity pulse signals in the start of the engine; an idle time ignition signal supply means 12 giving the ignition circuit the ignition signal by responding to the second pulse signal P2 after first ignition in the start is completed and when a revolution speed is idle revolution speed or less; and a stationary rotation time ignition signal supply means 13 giving the ignition circuit the ignition signal at a crank angle position matching with a calculated ignition position, after calculating an ignition position with respect to a control condition including a revolution speed when the revolution speed of the engine exceeds an idle revolution speed.
