PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external spring type socket terminal whose quality is stable. SOLUTION: Four pressing pieces 67 are provided at intervals of 90 degrees on the O-shaped ring 65 to be fitted to the outer periphery of the sleeve 53. The pressing pieces 67 are punch-formed to be in a cantilever manner so that they face the axial front side and are tilted inwards. When the O-shaped ring 65 is fitted to the outer periphery of the sleeve 53, the pressing pieces 67 respectively press each finger 61 inwards. Since the pressing forces exert on the whole fingers 61, the whole periphery of the sleeve 53 receives almost uniform pressing forces so that the contact area and pressure between the sleeve 53 (finger 61) and the round pin 22 are kept approximately constant.This remains identical even when the products (socket terminal 50) change.
