PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate update delays while maintaining fast search capability for a large scale document set. SOLUTION: A search method includes the steps of: causing an index search unit for making a search using a search index before document updates to make a search related to a search request and acquire a first list of document IDs of matching documents; causing a character string search unit holding document contents after the document updates to make a character string search related to the search request through the document contents after the document updates and acquire a second list of document IDs of matching documents; and generating a search result to the search request from the first list, the second list and a third list of document IDs of documents related to the document updates. The index search unit is used for the parts other than the updated parts and the character string search unit is used for the updated parts to maintain a fast search. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
