<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical unit capable of avoiding damages occurring when an objective lens collides against or brought into contact with an optical disk, wherein not only the objective lens but also the optical disk can avoid the damages while reducing a working distance (WD) that is the operating distance between the optical disk and an optical unit. <P>SOLUTION: The optical unit for use in an optical disk device includes an objective lens 8 condensing a luminous flux on a recording surface of the optical disk for recording information and a lens barrel 9 holding the objective lens. A lubrication layer 10 having lubrication action is provided on a surface of the objective lens and a surface of the lens barrel at a side facing the optical disk.
