PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform optimum focus control in accordance with an optical path split state in an imaging apparatus which performs operation to shift from a plurality of optical path split states to a photographing state. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus has: an imaging device 106 photoelectrically converting an object image; a finder optical system; a focus detection unit 121 detecting a focus state by using luminous flux from an object; optical path switching units 111 and 122 used to switch the optical path of the luminous flux from the object; and a switching mechanism switching the optical path switching units to a first condition that they guide the luminous flux from the object to the finder optical system and the focus detection unit, a second condition that they guide the luminous flux from the object to the imaging device and the focus detection unit and a third condition that they are positioned outside the optical path of the luminous flux from the object to the imaging device. Then, the apparatus has an integrating and storing means which integrates and stores at least the number of shifting times to the respective first and second conditions.
