PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium in which the generation of an excessive read load can be averted even if there is backward reproduction in a reproduction time axis. SOLUTION: An index table, an operation mode object, and a Java (R) application are recorded in a BD-ROM. The Java (R) application is a program described in a programming language for a virtual machine, and an application management table indicates one or more applications which are eventually controlled by managing the title corresponding to the operation mode object as an existence section. The application indicated by the application management table includes the application which is not automatically started but can be started according to the application call from other applications.
