<p>The method involves detecting digital image data of a reference surface in successive discrete frames by an image acquisition unit (20). One of the frames is divided into a set of macro-blocks. Another set of macro-blocks in the other frame corresponding to the former set of macro-blocks is detected. Displacement vectors are detected from a position of the former set of macro-blocks to a position of the latter set of macro-blocks. An incremental distance vector is determined based on the displacement vectors, and a transition is made in baseline- joint picture experts group (JPEG). An independent claim is also included for a device for measuring distance covered by a vehicle.</p> |
