The steerable axle (1) has axle fist bustles (3, 3') carrying longitudinal-sided steerable vehicle wheels (4, 4'), which are arranged at an axle body (2). A steering spindle (7) stands in effective connection with a steering gear (5) i.e. rack and pinion steering gear, where the steering gear is fastened at the axle body. A passage opening (9) of the axle body runs in an axle transverse direction, and the steering spindle is guided through the passage opening. Housing surrounds the steering spindle and is inserted into the passage opening. An independent claim is also included for a modular system for an axle.
