The system (1) has multiple field devices (5) measuring, monitoring and influencing process variables (P) and state variables. Each device has a sensor (11) for cyclic or acyclic determination of measuring device-specific measuring values for the variables. Each device has an actuator (12) for influencing the determined variables using a position value. One of the field devices provides the values as information to the remaining field devices. The information is provided as an actual process state vector.
