A method and an apparatus for processing protocol error in a wireless communications system are provided to recover the protocol error by timely triggering a reset process according to the conditions of a receiving terminal. In a method for processing protocol error in a wireless communications system, a protocol data unit processed an encoding is received(302). The protocol data unit is decoded(304). When at least one field of the protocol data unit includes an invalid value, a reset process is triggered(306). The protocol data unit is a wireless link control protocol data unit. The protocol data unit is a data protocol data unit with an acknowledgement mode. The one field includes a length pointer field.
