Disclosed is a medical device comprising a substrate with a passivating coating comprising keratin, said passivating coating comprising a bonding region and a bioactive region, said bonding region comprising at least one organosilane compound comprising a silane component bound to a surface of saidsubstrate and said bioactive region comprising an organic component of said organosilane bound to a reactive pendant group on said keratin.
