A robot cleaner and a control method thereof are provided to improve the convenience of use by automatically lighting a lamp embedded in a charging device if the movement of a user is detected. A robot cleaner comprises more than one detecting unit(S1~Sn) for detecting obstacles, and a control unit(100) for controlling the detecting function of detecting units in case of docking a charging device, and the lighting of a lamp(200) embedded in the charging device if the movement by a user is detected by the detecting unit. The control unit also lights the lamp through a server connected to a network if the movement is detected. The control unit controls the detecting function of detecting units in case of docking the charging device, and the generation of a voice or an alarm sound if the movement is detected by the detecting unit.
